In 2016 our Kindergarten class piloted a ‘River Kindy’ Program within the curriculum, due to the successful learning opportunities that ‘River Kindy’ provided this program is once again offered within our 2018 curriculum.River Kindy is made available to all enrolled Kindergarten children and will be available one day a week on a rotating day providing the opportunity for all Kindergarten children to experience ‘River Kindy’ on a regular basis.
River Kindy explores, environmental hazards, man-made hazards, tides and currents, flora and fauna, water safety, emergency services, and invited guests from our local community come along and facilitate workshops/experiences on topical interests.
Kuluin Early learning Centre provides river kindy children with their sun safe uniform (Hat and t-shirt) and we also supply each child with reef shoes to wear for the duration of the day. For rainy, windy cooler weather we have special splash suits to keep us warm and dry.
River Kindy is made available to Kulin Early Learning through funding received from the Kindergarten Funding Scheme.
The children will participate in utilising the natural resources as they participate in their ‘River Kindy’ learnings. We learn about our local environment, the story behind Chambers Island, the vegetation, the sea/river life, the land the fauna, the mangroves. We do not take any learning resources with us we broaden our thinking by utilizing what we already have around us as we explore.
